21 Days of Creating
This will be the third time I’ve run 21 Days of Creating. Last time, in March 2026, we had 71 people who joined from all over the world. I’ve been really inspired by what people have said that they got from the experience and so I’ve decided to run it again.
This time around, I’ve invited fellow artist and workshop leader Jon Rees to join me and together we’re giving the 21 days a bit more structure and support. We wanted to do this round in November, so that we can all end the year feeling a bit more creative.
THe idea
The idea is very simple - to do something creative, however big or small, every day for 21 days. It can be anything and even as little as a minute a day is enough. In previous groups, we’ve had people painting, writing poetry, taking photos, sewing, journaling, making music, or starting projects or even businesses they’ve been putting off for years.
I believe progress is made by the small, imperfect steps we take towards something every day. My favourite phrase is ‘trust the process’ and I’ve come to realise how true this can be, once we begin to engage with it.
How it works
For 21 days, we’ll do a little of something creative every day, with the ‘21 Days of Creating’ container giving extra support, accountability, inspiration and motivation. Every morning Jon and I will post a short creative thought in the group and you are welcome to share what you make, or not - it’s completely up to you.
There will be:
A 20-minute online drop-in each day at 10.30am UK time: a way to carve out a small space of the time in the day for creating. This is completely optional - you can turn up every day, some days, or not at all. You won’t have to speak or share what you are doing. It’s just a quiet space to be and create.
A one-hour Zoom call every week (three in total) at 11.15am UK time: where we can come together, talk about how it’s going, what we’re noticing and anything we’re getting stuck on.
A WhatsApp group for the full 21 days: where Jon and I will post a daily creative thought, where your work can be shared and where any group encouragement happens.
You can choose what you do or don’t attend; the structure is there to support you through the process.
The price for the 21 days is £35, which can also be paid in installments through Clearpay at checkout.
Words from previous participants
“I have thoroughly enjoyed being part of this very special group. Thank you so much, Harriet, for sharing your invaluable words of wisdom, encouragement and support through the 21 days. As an artist who feels very much at the beginning of my game, I have felt such encouragement from you all not to be scared of sharing. It’s been wonderful seeing all the beautiful imagery, photos, paintings, words, etc. I shall take so much inspiration from this group moving forward.”

“Thank you, Harriet, for setting this up. I have some good news for the last day - a gallery has just confirmed they will be taking my work to an art fair in May - hurray. This group and these 21 days have brought me luck!
Sarah R
“It’s been fabulous, these last three weeks. I’ve been able to get a lot of ideas out of my head and onto paper and I feel so much lighter and energised now. I’ve loved seeing everyone’s creative work and the individuality of each person. The honesty and freshness in this group is so wonderful to see. Thank you for organising this and to everyone else for sharing so generously. It’s been wonderful!”

Why 21 Days?
When the idea first came to me, 21 days felt like the right amount of time, not too long and not too short. Long enough to stay engaged, get some momentum going, experience the creative process in action - sticky bits and all, but not so long that it feels like too much to commit to.
I think a little of something every day is better, and ultimately more productive, than doing something intensely for a short period of time and then not picking it up again for another year.
Progress not perfection and over time learning to trust the process itself, which in my experience has a certain magic all of its own. Some days will feel easy and others may feel difficult, but for this short time we just keep on going through the ups and downs. If you miss a day, that’s ok too; you can pick it up again the next day.

Jon Rees is a multidisciplinary artist, photographer, workshop leader and mentor. He works with numerous organisations across the arts, health, community and corporate sectors, including the NHS, Imperial Health Charity, TK Maxx, EY, FRP and Kindred Studios. His highly regarded Changing Perspectives programme uses photography as a way to build confidence, connection and new ways of seeing.
His work is informed by his own experience of addiction and homelessness. At the heart of what he does is a belief that art should be open, accessible and part of everyday life, rather than something reserved solely for the art world. He has a First Class degree in Fine Art from Byam Shaw School of Art, Central Saint Martins.
What counts as creating?
Well that’s up to you. You might want to paint, draw, write, take photographs, make music, sew, knit, collage, cook, make ceramics, work on a garden, begin a book, return to an abandoned project, start a business, or experiment with something new.
Some people use the 21 days to work on one project and others make something completely different every day. The thing/s you are creating can be something very ambitious or something very small. Our own internal compass will be able to guide us very well on this all.
Who’s it For?
It’s for anyone who feels drawn to taking part and thinks that they may benefit from 21 days of doing something creative every day. Some people will already have an established creative practice and others won’t at all. You might have a project you’ve been putting off for ages and want some momentum to dive in, or you might just want to see how you feel each day and create accordingly.
Everyone is welcome and you’re invited to create whatever you instinctively feels right for you.

That’s ok, you can just pick it up again the next day. It’s about progress, not perfection. Life sometimes gets in the way and that’s normal.

No, sharing is completely optional. Whatever feels right for you.
